How to Connect

Since Williamsburg WiFi is a public network, the network name or SSID signal should automatically transmit to your electronic device. If this does not automatically occur, follow the instructions below.

Connecting in Windows
(95, 98, 2000, or XP)

  • Set your wireless network adapter’s Network Name (or ESSID) to "WILLIAMSBURGWIFI," or leave blank.
  • Configure your network settings to obtain an IP address automatically (DHCP).
  • Launch your web browser. A Login page should appear.
  • Read the terms of the free service and click "Login."
  • Start surfing on the Internet!

Connecting using Mac OS X

  • Select the Apple menu, and choose "Systems Preferences."
  • Select the "Network" and verify that "Show" is set to "Airport."
  • Select the "TCP/IP" tab. The settings should appear as follows:
    • Configure: Using DHCP
    • The Domain Name Servers(optional), DHCP Client ID, and search Domains should all be left blank.
  • Select the "Airport" tab. Preferred Network should be set to - WILLIAMSBURGWiFi. The Network password should be left blank.
  • Click "Save."

Connecting using Mac OS 9.x

  • Select the Apple menu, and choose "Airport."
  • Expand "Settings." It should read "Airport: On." If it is "Off" click on "Turn Airport On."
  • Under "Choose network," select "Other." For the "network name," type in WILLIAMSBURGWIFI-leave the password field blank and click on OK.
  • At the Apple menu, select "Control Panels" and select "TCP/IP." Select "Connect Via" and choose "Airport" from the drop down menu. In the "Configure" menu, select "Using DHCP Server."
  • Close the window and when prompted, save the changes. Launch your Web Browser, logon and start surfing!
